This research aimed to carry out the investigation of the hydrogeological conditions for the occurrence of high concentrations of uranium in tubular wells in the region of São José do Vale do Rio Preto, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, based on the use of integrated techniques from geophysical methods. The geological basement of the region of São José do Vale do Rio Preto is formed mainly by igneous and metamorphic rocks, which influence the predominance of the fissure-type aquifer in the study area. The analysis of aerogeophysical, geothermal and hydrogeological data points to the connection between higher groundwater temperatures with wells with high uranium content. The data also indicates the presence of faults in the SW-NE direction that cut out areas with high response in the gamma-spectrometric analysis and, in association with the evaluation of preferential underground flow directions, show that the water flows through these structures to the Preto river valley, which drains under the strong influence of the transpressive shear zone that sutures tectonic terrains, precisely in the places where there are records of high levels of uranium in groundwater.
